Our mission at I.S. 347k is for students, teachers, administrators, parents and the community to work collaboratively to establish a secure, challenging teaching-learning environment. This environment will help our students to grow academically, physically, emotionally and socially. To inspire our students to become life-long learners and leaders in society, we engage them in their learning and promote higher expectations for their performance through opportunities to explore and use technology in an interdisciplinary setting. We believe that every constituent of our school community is an equal partner, working together to promote an appreciation of our cultural diversity and bringing out the best in each student.
We value arts education and constantly seek ways to fund programs that enrich our students' overall learning experiences. We incorporate components of theater and visual arts into our core curriculum in all grades and in all subject areas. For example, with the assistance of a resident Teaching Artist, the Runaway Art Program targets 7th grade social studies students who are studying slavery in pre Civil-War America.
We offer our parents evening classes in ENL and Computer Literacy Skills. We also survey them in September to discover what topics they would like to see addressed in our parent workshops during the school year.
